Live Launches 24-Hour Web Camera To Chronicle The Complete Recording Of Band's New Album

TORONTO - August 7, 1998 - Last month, in a headline-making first, a worldwide web audience watched the birth of a live baby. Now, internet fans around the globe can watch the birth of a live album, as Radioactive Records band Live turns on a 24-hour unblinking studio-cam to webcast the making of their newest album, start to finish. Access www.universalcanada.com and click on LIVE.

To create the webcast, Live has partnered with newly-formed online music company, Is Entertainment, whose founding partners have been pushing the envelope in terms of music on the internet for quite some time. The Live webcast will bring a real-time camera into the studio, with the band and producer Jerry Harrison controlling the audio output and camera feeds. At least once a week, the band will take time out to answer questions posted by fans, to interview each other, their crew, and guests in the studio, as well as participate in an online chat. This will give fans the unique opportunity to participate in the complete public unfolding of a major musical work of art. Coinciding with this event will be an exclusive internet-only ticket give-away to a private concert the band is performing in Seattle this September.

Is Entertainment Co-Founder Kristen Stavola has played an integral part in the development of music communities online. Jon Luini, technical producer for the project, has long been recognized as a pioneer in the online music space dating back to his days at IUMA and Addicted to Noise. Said Stavola, "This project will give the audience perspective. Making an album is a lengthy and pretty cool process that not very many people get to experience. I am looking forward to this project because I have watched for the last few years as Live has embraced technology and the internet to create a really cool music experience that is more about their fans than anything else."

Live has long been deeply committed to exploiting the internet. Last month, the band launched an entire club date tour, announcing the dates only on their website. Live's last album, SECRET SAMADHI, debuted at Number 1 and is the third platinum-selling success for the band. Their Number 1 1994 release, THROWING COPPER, has sold over 7 million copies. LIVE made their album debut with 1992's platinum MENTAL JEWELRY. Comprised of vocalist Ed Kowalczyk, guitarist Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer, and drummer Chad Gracey, Live formed more than eleven years ago in York, PA.
