hello again from the nebulous cyberspace-jackin-jackoff-musical-network-
hurricane-blitz-o-rama-eden-retread-info-line!
i'm starting to feel like making this into a newsletter of sorts, so lets
try that design this time..
(begin newsletter font)
*IN THIS ISSUE*
- the *UPCOMING GIG* hotline
- summary of last gig
- personal dirt about the band
- available tapes/cds/etc
- closing statement
in upcoming gig news (yes, this is in fact the MEAT of this letter), we
will be gracing the glorious stage of the most drink-a-plenty RedRoom

the other local-favorite Sandbox closing things down later on. here's that
info for those of you who like it separated apart:

well, the last gig was ... interesting. we performed our 3 newest songs plus
one from the cd (solar, inkwell, savannah, MCDS) and finished just under
the 20minute cut-off time. the crowd was very (*very*) light throughout
the entire event, so at least there wasn't much pressure. we felt like we
played well, and got contacted by one of the judges afterwards for a promo
pack. alas, nothing has come of that (yet). out of the four semi-finalists,
there was one which sort of represented the "alternative/rock" genre, and i'm
happy to tell you that fellow psuedo-computer-folk-band the whistle pigs took
the bill there. it was clear the judges liked them as they audibly chuckled
during the break in "cecil" where the song becomes mostly smacking noises and
general sound effects of a squirrel. if you're interested in hearing more of
the band, you can mail fatboy@cats.ucsc.edu, check em out online in IUMA, or
keep your eyes peeled for other shows of their's in town.
in other news, rumours abound about the demise of the cactus club, which
was stricken by a fire the other day. i don't have any news as to how badly
damaged (if at all) it was, but it'd be a shame to see it go away... esp since
we should have been playing there again soon!
ah! at last, the personal dirt about the band section. this is where i can
make up outrageous gossip like.... "Rob's hair GROWS INTO THE SHAPE OF ELVIS!!"
well, sometimes the truth will have to cut it...
lesse.... rob continues to search for that state of bliss with the
"ultimate guitar tone" and is currently swapping out his cabinet for
all varieties. at last note, he had settled on a mesa cabinet.
sean is dressing hipper and hipper at each gig, searching for that *perfect*
stage outfit. hey, bring a donation to him at the next gig and maybe he'll
*sweat* on it!
glenn and jon (hey, that's ME) have moved into the blissful house in the
mountains along with two other fine individuals and expect to use their
joint musical equipment to create the optimal recording studio.
and that brings us to ....
... available tapes/cds/etc!
so, you sit there and say to yourself "hey, i really dig that regressive
booty groove thang of eden retread... but.... WHERE CAN I GET MORE?"
well, wonder no longer, because you *can't*. well, at least not yet.
(did i scare you?) we're in the tail end of our recording of 8 more songs
on aforementioned recording equipment, the prime piece of which is a
tascam da-88 8track digital deck. if all goes well, advance copies of the
new tape will be available at the red room show, though it may contain
just the newest 3 songs; inkwell, savannah, and solar. no doubt, upon reading
this, you will begin eyeing that blank space in your music collection with
growing annoyance.
but wait! what's that you say? you lost your copy of the cd? you have
20 friends who love it so much and want their own copy? your mom works for
a record distributer and wants to distribute them?
have no fear, we still have plenty of copies of our first work,
mischivious bourgeois zoo mind thieves available for the shockingly
reasonable price of $5 direct from the band. they are also available at
between $5 and $10 from the following local record stores:
- Beat City - Santa Cruz, CA USA
- Cymbaline - Santa Cruz & Capitola, CA USA
- The Basement - Santa Cruz, CA USA
- The Wherehouse - Capitola, CA USA
- Tower Records - Campbell, CA USA
this brings us to the end of this diversion from doing something about
the growing pile of work that sits in front of me. i am sorry to say that
i don't have any cohesive inspiration from above to share with you at this
time, but i will tell you this:
- if you know of anyone who wishes to be added to the eden retread online
mailing list, please have them mail me (jonl@hal.com) and i'll take care
of 'em right away. (no, i *don't* mean kill them and dispose of the
body).
for those of you with WWW access, make sure to check out our home page.
the url is: http://klinzhai.iuma.com/eden-retread/index.html
and it contains all sorts of goodies, which i'll leave for you to
discover on your own...
ta ta,
--jon, for the rest of the boyz in za band
